PM Asks: Don’t Share Video or Images by Alleged Gunman (from Christchurch Mosque Shooting)

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern ask people not to share the livestream and images from the alleged gunman in yesterday’s mass shooting at two of Christchurch mosques.

At last night’s 7pm press conference, after addressing the nation, the Prime Minister had this to say in response to a question from a reporter:

My message would be: we should not be sharing, perpetuating, giving any oxygen to this act of violence and the message that sat behind.

We should all be condemning obviously what has happened here today in the peaceful nation of New Zealand. And what all of us can at least do is at least ensure we do not share, spread or actively engage in that message of hate.

We have been given assurance that online at least those platforms where some of those images are being shared are being actively removed. But I just ask people, don’t share them.
